I just wanted to let you into a little plan I have with my boyfriend Dave. We are leaving behind our work-related lives on the 18th October and are venturing out to new territories of travel, street-style and documentary photography. A big change from what I’ve been doing since I went to freelance status in 2007. But I feel that it’s time for a change! For a year or so I will be inspired by cultures, soaking up what’s going on around me and documenting it all along the way. We decided to do this some time ago so I’ve been getting ready to this huge adjustment in my life for quite some time. It doesn’t mean that my passion for my work in fashion, beauty and portraiture will not be met, I hope to continue to shoot some alternative fashion stories as I go across continents and through varying cultures. Portraits will cross my path photographically along the way as I’m sure we’ll meet many different people as we go. I feel that by taking the time away from commercial work and my self-employed status will open up to me creative freedom. A time for me to experiment with new cameras and places and feed this creativity back into my own work. Who knows where it will take me photographically and creatively but I know it’s too good an opportunity for me to miss!

So if you want to keep up to date with what we’re doing, seeing, where we’re going to and what we have to say about it all please do keep a check on our blog notworkrelated. This was Dave’s baby and I’m really chuffed to be part of this creative collaboration. We would love you to follow us and comment on our work…as long as it’s nice!

I’ll still be blogging on here but my focus will be with notworkrelated, anything that I shoot that I feel is appropriate for my site will go on here and like I said I do plan on shooting some fashion work as we go. If you think you may want to work with me on my travels, or have any contacts for modeling worldwide please do get in touch. Our full itinerary is on the blog and we have already started posting! The look and feel is all down to Dave, so a massive thanks to him!

Thanks for your support over the years it’s been great to have such a positive response to my work and development. Thanks also to my clients who I’ve enjoyed working with professionally over the years.

Be sure to contact me when I’m back in the UK as no doubt I’ll be looking to test!

The 2010 AOP Photographers awards have been announced including categories for commissioned and non-commissioned work both for photographers and design agencies to submit to. I submitted to the Body non-commissioned category however was not successful this time!! I hope that in the future my work will go further in this highly regarded competition as it has great prestige and winning imagery is included in a published book and their awards exhibition in London. It’s a great platform for exposure. You can enter work as part of a series or as individual pieces. Categories for this year included advertising and editorial imagery, documentary, body, object, innovation, the moving image and best use of imagery in advertising and design campaigns. Some of the strongest work for me came from a series of insightful natural and non-confrontational portraits submitted by Kiran Master in the non-commissioned body series. Dan Burn-forti‘s uncomfortably rich portrait of Gordon Brown is also intriguing along with so many other photographer’s who were successful in this competition. It’s great to see interesting use of  imagery in so many advertising campaigns, imagery that is insightful and quirky and with an obvious input of the style of the photographer involved. I would love to work on some really imaginative campaigns like those seen in the commissioned categories in the not too distant future.

I returned to the AOP gallery in London recently to collect my exhibition prints shown in the recent summer exhibition, and to have a look at their current AOP Open exhibition. Whilst I was there I picked up the latest edition of Image magazine, issue 409  to have a nosey about up and coming exhibitions across Europe and any reviews that may be included. Along with a review for the summer exhibition was a full page print of one of my selected images for the show; Milkshakes & Laundrettes. I was really pleased to see my work published in Image alongside other featured photographers and articles. Kate Doyle, AOP Gallery commented ‘The summer Exhibition was the perfect opportunity for members to enter personal work and it was great to see such an eclectic mix of images and presentation styles. It was a real pleasure for the Gallery team to put the show together.”

It is likely that this event will be annual so I think after the year that lies ahead I hope to create more exciting imagery and personal work that will be submitted for exhibitions and publication. Image magazine is published every two months and can be purchased both online and through the gallery store. Included are photographer showcases, exhibition reviews and diaries, project profiles, as well as legal and technical stuff!
