Living a life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than fear

Living a life that is driven more strongly by curiosity than fear.

Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

So, how can we let our creative-selves shine?

I guess the simple answer is to RELAX! And luckily for us, yoga is one way we can …relax that is. More often than not we can feel tension in our body somewhere. If we draw our attention towards it we may be able to start thinking about releasing and letting it go.

Simple movements with the breath can help us untangle the knots and allow us to release unnecessary tension in the body. It’s only when we can learn to truly relax that we begin to recognise just HOW that feels.

How can we let our creative-selves shine?

How about we just switch off for a little while?

A short practice…

Lie on your back with your knees bent. Place your feet carefully on the floor away from your bottom.

Ask yourself…
What do I need?
How do I feel?

Are there any areas of tension and if so focus your awareness towards them.

Breathe in fully and sigh the breath out as you exhale. Repeat several times until you feel settled in your body and connected to your breath.

Breathe in and take your arms over head in the direction of the ground.

Exhale to lower, bringing them back by your sides. Repeat several times.

Settle, placing your hands over your heart or your abdomen …and then listen to your breath, rising and falling in your body. Finding space and expansion as you breath in, sinking heavier into the ground and letting go as you exhale. Stay here for a while.

When you have finished, ask yourself the same questions. This time has the tension shifted? Is there any at all?

Moving forward consider the changes that occurred and notice what comes next? Perhaps you’ll feel inspired to change your daily habits and delve into something that feels a little curious, playful or even creative.
